Coach Manjural Alam Khan talking with Kushal Bhurtel and Rupesh Bastola |
Nepali national cricket
team eying for their maiden U-16 title will be taking on Bahrain on Sunday
during their ACC U-16 Elite Cup Cricket Tournament being held in Kuala Lumpur
of Malaysia. The 2010 edition runner-up Nepal had launched their campaign in
the tournament with a 78 run convincing win over Kuwait in the first
match.
Off the mark with victory
Nepal aim to batter an improved side Bahrain to stick on the winning streak.
Nepal and Malaysia are supposed to be the strong contenders for the semifinals
from the group B. So, Nepal’s first win would be to secure the semifinals place
in the tournament.
And, for this Nepali
young gunners have prepared hard in the ground. They have had two and half
hours long practice session at the
Kinrara Oval Ground. Coach Manjur Alam Khan and team manager Sanjeev Kumar
Pandey took players at the ground and asked them to practice in all three
batting, bowling and fielding departments.
Hats off to Nepalese
players, who looked so energetic and fresh during the net-session, despite of
the hot day here in Kuala Lumpur. Coach
Khan was happy with team’s preparation and claimed that his boys will defeat
Bahrain. “Boys have prepared well for the match against Bahrain. I am sure we
will beat them,” confident coach said to TNP, “They have given their best in
the net-session.”
Some reliable batsmen –
Deependra Chand, Shashi Bhushan Mishra, and left hander Aadil Khan – could not
supply as per the expectation against Kuwait. However, coach said that they had
worked on their poor side and they would not repeat the same mistake in
Sunday’s match.
Nepal’s run-machine Nurdhoj Sen had played a scintillating knock against Kuwait. Sen had missed his maiden half-century in the debut but his 47 runs knock off 58 balls with four boundaries made him the ringmaster of the Nepal’s show.
Nepal found another
star in middle order as Kushal Bhurtel, who collected 34 runs off 54 balls and
anchored Nepal’s inning when Nepal was struggling with some quick blows.
According to coach, Bhurtel can be a trustworthy weapon for Nepal in upcoming
matches.
Moreover, no one can
forget the destroyer Kalicharan Yadav, who was alone enough to demolish Kuwaiti
innings. Though Nepal have an impression of an all-round squad, they would be
excellent in every departments in their second match, coach told TNP.
“Boys will be
outstanding in every parts of the ground,” claimed coach. Bowling section
commanders - Kalicharan, Jagdish Chand and Rupesh Bastola had performed
terrific in practice. Yadav and Jagdish are the opener bowlers for Nepal.
Delighted with bowlers sharp attack coach said, “They have bowled with accurate
line and length in net. They will take over Bahraini batsmen.” Khan is also
hopeful over other player’s comeback.
According to coach, if
Nepal bat first then they will aim to post a minimum 180 runs target against
Bahrain. “As per our preparation, we won’t have any problem in setting up the
desired total against them.” But, the untimely rain in Kuala Lumpur may hamper
Nepal batting, informed worried coach.
Khan also hailed boys
for their fitness level and the positive body language. “They are positive
towards every match and if they maintain the same attitude in the upcoming
match then the trophy is not far from us,” claimed coach, who opined that
Bahrain have a little problem in bowling section though they have better
batsmen. “They have got some good scorers in the team but they have feeble
bowling attack,” said coach commenting on the opposition competence.
