The 2010 edition runner-up Nepal came under pressure
as the hosts Malaysia registered third consecutive win in the ongoing ACC U-16
Elite Cup being held in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia. Malaysia defeated Kuwait by
16 runs to cruise into the semifinals after topping the table with 6 points.
Now Nepal will take on Iran on Tuesday in their
third and the last match before the semifinals berths at the Bayuemas Oval
Ground in Kuala Lumpur after winning both matches. Earlier, Nepal had
registered a 78 runs win over Kuwait at the same ground. Nepal cricket team
coach Manjur Alam Khan said that they will not take Iran carelessly.
“They are an average side. We have not taken Iran
lightly. They are a good team,” said coach. Nepal with four points from two
matches have strengthened their second place in the Group B. On contrary, Iran
have secured two points after one loss and win each. If Iran get stunning
result against Nepal, they will also make it through to the semifinals. So,
Nepal will have to be cautious and should not repeat any mistakes done earlier.
Also, result in favor of Nepal will take Nepal on
top spot of the table. Nepal (+2) have better run rate than Iran (-1). Nepali
squad did not step in practice session as Nepal will take on Iran and Malaysia
on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. “We have to play two matches within 48
hours so we have given rest to players, said coach, “They looked tired after
the match against Bahrain.” According to him, he wanted player not to suffer
any injuries before the crucial match against Malaysia. “Beating Malaysia in
their home is our goal. And, we want all players to bet fit for the tough match
so we did not have practice today,” added coach. Coach Khan said that he was
hopeful of better result from the Bayuemas Oval Ground. “The Bayuemas Oval
Ground looks better track for seam bowlers. I hope our bowlers will be threatening
to the opponents there,” claimed coach.
Meanwhile, Nepali players look physically and
mentally prepared to lock horns with Iran. Nepali captain Deependra Chand also
claimed that they will easily get rid of Iran. “If we play the way we played
against Bahrain, we will clinch a huge victory over Iran,” asserted Deependra,
who remained the man of the match against Bahrain for his match winning 75 runs
innings. Nepal a better sides in batting and bowling departments, have not
yield any impression in the field. Coach Khan also admits Nepal’s disappointing
performance in fielding. “I confess the fact that boys have not fielded well.
There is a lot to do to improve our fielding,” admitted Coach, “We’ll try to
field well against Iran.”
According to coach, if Nepal bat first, they will
aim to post over 200 runs. “They do not have high-quality bowling attack and
our batsmen will try to score maximum runs on the board.”
Nepali openers Deependra Chand and Nurdhoj Sen are
among the top three scorers of the tournament. D. Rajan of Malaysia is leading
with total 111 runs, followed by Nurdhoj 88 runs and Deependra 80 runs. Match
winner and the demolisher against Kuwaiti innings, Kali Charan Yadav has
secured bowlers top three list with seven wickets. Nepal’s innings will heavily
depend on Deependra and Nurdhoj, opined coach.
Injured Kushal returns home
Reliable all-rounder Kushal Bhurtel who dislocated
his shoulder arm prior to the match against Bahrain is coming back home today.
According to the the doctors of Sanebe Medical Center, where Kushal was
treated, Kushal will need one month to get fully recover. “All arrangements
have been made to send Kushal back to home,” informed Nepal team manager
Sanjeev Kumar Pandey. According to him, he had tough times in arranging
Kushal’s departure. “It was so difficult to send him back within two days.
Thanks to CAN and Nepalese embassy for such quick arrangements,” said Pandey,
who had some talk with ACC officials as well.
Ajay to replace Kushal
Ajay Sahani will come in place of injured Kushal
Bhurtel, as confirmed team manager Pandey. “Now, another all-rounder Ajay
Sahani will replace Kushal. Can has done all the arrangements to send Ajay
here.” According to him, Ajay will reach Malaysia by Thursday morning, but will
miss group round matches. Ajay is good in both batting and bowling sections and
he is worth of playing in Kushal’s place, said coach khan.
Fun in swimming pool
As it was a rest day for Nepalese players before two
following matches against Iran and Malaysia, they had some fun in swimming
pool. Coach allowed them to have cooling moments in the pool. “I take them for
swimming as swimming also helps them to stay fit,” said coach. Players looked
refreshed after half an hour long enjoyable time in the pool.
